Throughout the operational lifespan of an Arrowhead drone system, it is common for the motors to collect debris from dirty operational environments. Gravel, Dust, Blown Insulation, and other types of debris can get stuck in the motors, reducing performance and potentially causing damage to the aircraft. This guide will explain how to remove an arrowhead motor, clean it, and remount or replace it entirely.

Required Tools


1x Prop Nut Driver

1x 2.5mm Hex Driver Earlier versions may utilize a smaller 1.5 mm driver for the motors

Steps


  1. Identify affected motor, remove the propeller and set the prop and nut aside.

  2. Flip the aircraft, using the 2.5 mm driver, remove the 4 motor screws that are beneath the motor and embedded in the landing gear. Set the landing gear, and the four screws aside.

  3. Unplug the motor by pulling on the gray end of the plug at the end of the wiring. Be careful not to pull on the wires as this may cause damage to the motor.

  4. (Optional): Run the motor under a steady stream of water, you can go as far as submerging the motor bell and shaking it around to remove any debris that has accumulated. Be sure to allow 12hrs of drying time before powering on the aircraft with this motor.

  5. Plug the motor, or a replacement, back into the port. The plug is keyed so there is only be one way to do so.

  6. Take a single screw, and thread it through the landing gear and into the motor, do not fully tighten it down. This will help keep everything together while we remount the motor.

  7. Mount the other three screws, waiting for them all to be threaded before tightening them all down.

  8. Visually Inspect the motor screws, ensuring that no screws make contact with the copper windings of the motor. This should be impossible unless different screws are used.

  9. Remount the propeller and fly!
